8/18/2023 0 Comments Former gifted kid burnoutSixth grade starts, and now I have 3+ hours of homework a night. At my previous school I excelled with minimal effort, rarely got under 99% on any test or quiz or project. In sixth grade I started at a very prestigious school geared toward college prep. All of the teachers and administrators and guidance counselors who were ever involved with me just assumed I was not applying myself. I was made to feel like all of these failures were my fault alone.Īs an adult I learned I'm probably autistic (I'm awaiting an evaluation for it but my therapist is 100% sure that's what my main issue is) and should have been getting extra support and early intervention from the time I was preschool aged. I was extremely self-destructive and couldn't tolerate being in a normal school environment in any way. My district refused to send me to an alternative school despite the fact I was floundering and needed extra support because I was hospitalized an average of once every marking period. I tested well but started struggling in high school to the point I went batshit insane. I was often mocked online as a teenager because people assumed I was trying to use florid language purposefully to sound smart. I learned to read very young, I read from the dictionary in grade school for shits and giggles. >!insert spoiler here!< Other subreddits you might like: some Mod posts Serious posts Megathread Breaking news Unfilter Please use spoiler tags to hide spoilers.
